neighborhood bandit

last week sometime we were driving down our street coming home from somewhere, and in broad daylight we saw this little guy poking his head out of a tree about 2 houses down from us. of course i didn't have my camera at the time, so i've been waiting for the chance ever since to run down there and take his picture.

he is so curious--he just sat there letting me snap photo after photo of him before he finally retreated back inside his home.

we haven't seen him rummaging around the 'hood at all, and i also think from the size of his head that he seems like a young one. the racoons around here can get very large (like the opossums i wrote about earlier).

we joked about how funny it might be to get a glimpse inside his "home"--what a mess it might be. i think we have watched the movie "over the hedge" one too many times...

here's another more far-away shot so you can get an idea of the size of him in relation to the tree he lives in:

It is odd that he was out in the daylight. Or it could be a she - wouldn't it be fun if there were little raccoon babies? I don't think I've even seen a picture of a raccoon baby before. Hmmm....

By the way, it seems that your neighborhood is a regular zoo. You have lizards, & oppossums, and raccoons....
